Australian Prostate Cancer (APC) is fighting for a future free from prostate cancer.
APC is part of The Hospital Research Foundation Group, which supports people in the community by funding vital health and medical research and improved patient care in our hospitals.
In times of crisis, we are fighting together for you and your loved ones.
This week we are taking a number of steps to bring hope and help flatten the curve of the COVID-19 global pandemic.
As a significant health charity, it is incumbent on us to do all we can to protect the health and wellbeing of our community, with a focus on the elderly, vulnerable patient groups and importantly, our healthcare workers and emergency service personnel.
Patient care and research
Rest assured, we are in consultation with universities and hospitals about ways we can support patient care initiatives and research projects to protect the community from COVID-19. One of these initiatives is a new Telehealth program for Cystic Fibrosis patients, ensuring they can be treated at home during this time (read more here). We look forward to announcing more lifesaving initiatives as soon as possible.
While we are unsure what impact this crisis will have on our fundraising initiatives, we are committed to continuing to fund our grant recipients, ensuring their work can go on. The world may have turned its attention to this unprecedented pandemic, but we are also thinking of those who are fighting other diseases such as prostate cancer. The impacts for these patients do not stop during a time like this. If anything, the stress of living with a debilitating illness only escalates. It’s important that we continue to be there and fight for all men affected by prostate cancer and their families.
Keeping together by staying apart
Our own team is playing a role in the fight. Our office remains open to the public on weekdays from 9am to 3:30pm, but we have implemented social distancing. The majority of our employees and volunteers are working from home when possible and we are embracing technology and finding new ways to stay together by keeping apart.
Offering a helping hand
Our friendly Donor Engagement team are here for our supporters launching a ‘check in’ phone call program. They are reaching out to our elderly and vulnerable donors to find ways to support them in times of need, giving them hope at a time they need it most. If you would like to speak to someone in our team, please call (08) 8243 1101.
We are pleased to continue to run the Under Our Roof service, providing a vital accommodation service for country cancer patients and their families travelling to Adelaide for treatment. We are working to the health and hygiene protocols set out by SA Health in response to COVID-19 to ensure the safety of all guests, their families, our service providers and staff. If you have a query or require more information on this service, please call our team on the number mentioned above.
Join the fight
We will continue to fight COVID-19 and your ongoing support means that we can do more to help. Keep an eye out on our social media channels and website for ways you can join the fight.
In times of crisis, we are stronger together.
